Men's Lacrosse Has Two Selections to All-MIAA Second Team

The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team had two student-athletes named to an All-MIAA team on Wednesday (May 3). Logan Gillis was named to the second team as an attacker, while Jack Bungart received second team honors as a defender. This was the first time that either now has been named to an All-MIAA team.

Kalamazoo finished the 2023 regular season with a record of 7-7 (3-3 MIAA) and earned their first trip to the MIAA Tournament in program history. The Hornets collected non-conference wins over Earlham, Northwestern-St. Paul, Benedictine, and Edgewood, with conference wins over Alma, Calvin, and Trine. 

Gillis was one of the top offensive players in the conference, finishing 11th in shots, tied for 12th in shots on goal, 13th in points, tied for 13th in goals, and tied for 15th in assists. For Kalamazoo, Gillis led the team with 27 goals, 13 assists, 40 points, 102 shots, and 55 shots on goal in 13 games. Four of his goals came with a man advantage and another one came a man down while adding 25 ground balls and two caused turnovers. His best games came against Northwestern-St. Paul and Adgewood, where he put up a season-high six points in both games with four goals and two assists against UNSP and two goals and four assists against EC. In his second season, Gillis had career-highs in goals, points, shots, shots on goal, and ground balls. For his career, he has scored 43 goals with 27 assists for 70 points in 28 games. Gillis also has 43 ground balls, eight caused turnovers, 195 total shots, and 99 shots on goal.

In his first season of collegiate lacrosse, Bungart made his presence known defensively once conference play started. In those six games, he was first in the MIAA with 20 caused turnovers while only committing two turnovers and tied for fifth with 28 ground balls. Overall, Bungart was first on the team with 29 caused turnovers and second with 37 ground balls in 10 games this season while adding two goals and an assist for three points. The best game in his first season was the 14-13 thriller at Alma, where he picked up six ground balls and forced five turnovers. 

The Hornets travel to Albion on Wednesday (May 3) for the MIAA Tournament Semifinals game, beginning at 7 p.m.
