Men's Lacrosse Falls in Opener at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team lost its season opener 8-5 at DePauw University on Sunday.

DePauw led 2-1 at the end of the first quarter, but four Tiger goals in the second quarter gave DePauw a 6-1 lead at halftime.

DePauw led 7-2 after the third quarter.

An early Hornet goal in the fourth made it 7-3. DePauw went up 8-3 with 6:20 left in regulation. A pair of Hornet goals in the final minute made it an 8-5 final.

DePauw outshot Kalamazoo 32-30 overall. The Hornets held a 17-16 edge in shots on goal. DePauw had 37 ground balls to Kalamazoo's 33. DePauw won seven of the 13 face offs.

Jake Asnis led the Hornets with two goals. Cam VanGalder had a goal and an assist.

Sam Hughes and Grayson Pratt each scored a goal. Max Plesscher and Ryan Warezak were each credited with an assist.

Jack Bungart led the Hornets with five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Colby Skinner and Logan Gillis each had four ground balls. James Dailey had three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Kalamazoo returns to action at Benedictine (Ill.) next Saturday, March 2.
