Men's Lacrosse Wins at Benedictine

LISLE, Ill. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team won 20-14 at Benedictine University on Saturday.

Kalamazoo scored 56 seconds into the contest and scored the first six goals of the game. A late goal by the Eagles made it a 6-1 game at the end of the first quarter.

Kalamazoo led by as many as nine (12-3) in the second quarter before three goals by Bendictine in the final 2:37 made it 12-6 in favor of the Hornets at halftime.

Benedictine got within five twice in the third but still trailed 15-8 at the end of three quarters.

Kalamazoo led 19-11 with 5:53 left in regulation. Benedictine scored three times making it 19-14 with 58 seconds left. A late Hornet goal led to the 20-14 final.

Kalamazoo outshot Benedictine 52-30 overall, 32-22 on goal.

Benedictine won 20 of the 37 face-offs but turned the ball over 30 times compared to Kalamazoo's 20. Each team scored four man-up goals.

Cam VanGalder broke the school record with ten goals in the game on 15 shot attempts.

Logan Gillis scored five goals with six assists, breaking the school record for points in a game (11).

Grayson Pratt added two goals and an assist. Ronin Honda and Colby Skinner were each credited with two assists.

Jack Bungart led the team with six ground balls and three caused turnovers while also assisting on a goal. Skinner was second on the team with five ground balls.

Eric Paternoster made four saves in goal in the first 30 minutes of the game. Larson Makie was credited with four saves in the second half.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to play its home opener next against MSOE on Saturday, March 9, at 1 p.m.
