Kalamazoo Wins Home Opener Over MSOE

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team defeated the Milwaukee School of Engineering 12-6 at MacKenzie Field on Saturday.

The visiting Raiders scored first just under five minutes into the game. Kalamazoo responded just over a minute later and scored four goals over six minutes to take a 4-1 lead. MSOE scored twice in the final two minutes to trail 4-3 at the end of the first quarter.

MSOE evened the score with a goal early in the second. Kalamazoo scored with 8:38 and 4:07 on the clock to take a 6-4 lead. MSOE scored with 2:10 left to trail 6-5 at halftime.

Kalamazoo scored early in the third and scored the only four goals in the quarter to lead 10-5 after 45 minutes of play. The Hornets went up 11-5 with 8:46 left in the fourth. MSOE scored its only goal of the second half with 6:29 remaining. Kalamazoo finished the scoring with 3:49 left on the clock leading to the 12-6 final.

Kalamazoo (2-1) outshot MSOE (2-2) 45-23 overall, 27-15 on goal. The Hornets took advantage of 35 MSOE turnovers while turning the ball over 23 times. Kalamazoo had 41 ground balls to the Raiders' 38.

Cam VanGalder led the Hornets with four goals, four ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Grayson Pratt and Eli Routt each scored twice. Routt also had an assist.

Logan Gillis scored a goal with three assists and five ground balls.

Max Plesscher, Ronin Honda and Mike Hume each scored a goal. Honda also had an assist. 

Jack Bungart shared the team-high with five ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Larson Makie made nine saves in goal for the win.

Kalamazoo is back in action at home against North Central College on Wednesday, March 13, at 5 p.m.
