Men's Lacrosse Falls to Aurora

AURORA, Ill.. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team was defeated 15-9 by Aurora University on the road on Saturday. The hosting Spartans improved to 4-4, while the Hornets fell to 2-3.

Kalamazoo trailed 2-1 after scoring midway through the first quarter, with Aurora scoring the first two goals. The Spartans scored once more with 1:17 remaining to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first.

Aurora turned that last goal in the first quarter into an 8-0 run in the second to expand its lead to nine goals. The Hornets scored three goals in the final four minutes to trail 10-4 heading into halftime.

Kalamazoo outscored the Spartans 3-1 in the third quarter to cut the deficit to four with 15 minutes left in the game. However, Aurora responded with a 4-2 advantage in the fourth for the 15-9 victory.

Aurora outshot Kalamazoo 62-39 overall, including 32-22 on goal. The Spartans won 16-of-28 faceoffs.

Grayson Pratt and Eli Routt scored twice to lead the Hornets offensively. 

Logan Gillis scored a goal and led the team in points with three assists.

Ronin Honda and Ryan Warezak each scored a goal and had an assist. Cam VanGalder and Ethan Huebsch scored the other two goals.

JJ Ohren-Hoeft led the Hornets defensively with four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Dylan Wickey made 13 saves in the game.

The Hornets will be back in action on March 27 when they travel to Hanover College.
