HANOVER, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College men's lacrosse team won 12-5 at Hanover College on Wednesday.
Hanover scored the first goal just over three minutes into the contest. The Panthers held the 1-0 lead for over 11 minutes before Kalamazoo tied it with 22 seconds left in the first quarter.
After the slow offensive start, the two teams combined for 11 goals in the second quarter. Kalamazoo scored nine straight over the first 13 minutes. Hanover scored to make it 9-2 with 2:13 remaining but two more Kalamazoo goals gave the Hornets an 11-2 lead at halftime.
Offensive production slowed again in the second half as each team scored one goal in the third, and Hanover scored twice in the fourth leading to the 12-5 final.
Kalamazoo outshot Hanover 53-25 overall, 34-10 on goal. Kalamazoo had 54 ground balls to Hanover's 33. The Hornets won 16-of-20 faceoffs.
Eli Routt led Kalamazoo with three goals.
Logan Gillis had two goals and an assist. Jake Asnis and Cam VanGalder also scored twice.
Ryan Warezak had a goal and three assists with five ground balls. Mike Hume had two assists.
Sam Hughes led the Hornets with seven ground balls. Lukas Graff was credited with three caused turnovers.
Dylan Wickey (1 save), Eric Paternoster (1 save) and Tony Valade (3 saves) combined to limit Hanover to five goals.
Kalamazoo is back in action Saturday, March 30, at Transylvania University at noon.
