ADA, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team had its first road test Saturday, Sept. 9 against the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University (ONU). Despite outshooting the home Polar Bears, Kalamazoo could not find the back of the net and fell by a score of 1-0.

"We scheduled nationally ranked teams because we are determined to improve, challenge ourselves, and get to that elite level," Kalamazoo Head Coach Lumumba Shabazz said. "We outshot and outplayed an excellent team on its home field. We just fell short of the desired result."

ONU came into the match ranked fourth in the most recent NSCAA Division III Coaches Poll.

Kalamazoo outshot ONU 14-10 in the contest. The Hornets put four shots on net, but all were saved by Polar Bear netminder Evan Bader.

The game was scoreless until the 67th minute. A cross into the box found the head of Stephen Perkins. Kalamazoo sustained possession, and had four quality scoring chances, but could not find the back of the net.

Sophomores Roger Mason Darling and Jory Finkelberg led K offensively with four shots each.

Kalamazoo returns to action a week from today when it travels to Chicago for a game against U. of Chicago.
