Hornets tie with Elmhurst College 1-1

Cal Kirchen playing soccer.

The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team tied with Elmhurst 1-1 after 110 minutes of play on Saturday night. The Hornets are now 2-2-1 this season.

Kalamazoo fell behind very early after the Blue Jays scored a goal in the game's 13th minute. After that goal both teams became more aggressive on both sides of the ball and both had quite a few opportunities to score, but defense prevailed for the rest of the first half and most of the second.

Things weren't looking good for the Hornets as they were still down 1-0 in the 89th minute. Just then Noah Bushaw saved the day with a goal off an assist from Jackson Greenstone to send the game to overtime.

Kalamazoo had some more opportunities to score during the twenty minutes of overtime, but failed to break the tie. Defense from both sides was stingy tonight with the teams combining for 31 shots on goal and only scoring two.

The men will get their first conference test this Wednesday, Sept. 17th when they take on conference opponent Albion in Kalamazoo.
