Hornets defeat Britons 1-0

Kyle Hernandez playing soccer.

The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team defeated Albion 1-0 on Tuesday night. The Hornets are now 3-3-2 this season, and 1-1-1 in MIAA conference play.

The game had very little action in the first half, with the ball remaining mostly in the center of the field and neither team attacking much at all. The teams went into halftime knotted at 0-0.

In the second half the Hornets came out much more aggressive and started getting into the Britons' box repeatedly. Kalamazoo was able to get off seven shots on goal; Kyle Hernandez was responsible for three of those shots. Both of his first attempts were stopped by great saves, but his third attempt found the back of the net.

Hernandez scored on a header off a free kick from Jordan Veillette in the game's 85th minute. Kalamazoo was able to hold onto the lead for the remainder of the game. The Hornet defense was fantastic all night, only allowing one shot on goal. Beau Prey made an excellent save toward the end of the first half when he deflected a shot into the cross bar.

The men will have a few days off before hosting conference opponent Olivet on Saturday, Sept. 27.
