Kalamazoo College's Griffin Hamel was named Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
A sophomore from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Hamel backstopped a pair of 2-1 victories for Kalamazoo last week. He logged 190 minutes in goal and surrendered just a pair of goals to finish the week with a 0.95 goals against average. The 2-1 overtime victory at Albion marked the Hornets' second overtime road victory of the season. Hamel led Kalamazoo to a 2-1 victory over Trine at home to complete a season sweep of the Thunder.
Kalamazoo is 9-4-1 overall and 8-2 in the MIAA (second place). The Hornets travel to Hope on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
