KALAMAZOO, Mich. - With a berth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament Championship on the line Wednesday evening, the Kalamazoo College men's soccer team let its chance at a conference championship slip away as Alma College came away with a 1-0 victory at Mackenzie Field.

The only goal of the game came in the 82nd minute of play as Evan Shirkey headed in a long throw-in from Zach Vandeveer.

Two of Kalamazoo's best chances each came within the 76th minute of play. Cal Kirchen placed a shot from 12 yards out over the goal and just missed the bottom corner off a cross from Collin Sweet less than one minute later.

Another shot from Jordan Veillette in the 85th minute was picked out of the bottom corner by a diving Nick Strait.

The Hornets carried the majority of the play throughout the game in its entirety outshooting the Scots 18-11.

Griffin Hamel made five saves in goal for Kalamazoo.

With the result, Kalamazoo ends its season with an 11-7-1 overall record. Alma will take on Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. on Saturday, Nov. 7 in the MIAA Tournament Championship.
