Men's Soccer shuts out Alma 1-0

Men's soccer players in a huddle.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer earned its first conference win of the year Tuesday, topping Alma 1-0 at Mackenzie Field.

The Hornets had the bulk of possession in the contest and applied pressure to the Alma goal throughout the game, recording 19 shots and nine corner kicks. The breakthrough for K came in the 69th minute as Tim Jeske tucked a shot inside the far post from 18 yards out. The goal was Jeske's first of the season and proved to be the difference in the game. Ryan Melgar nearly doubled K's lead minutese later with a well struck free kick from 25 yards out that forced a save from Alma keeper Garrison Mast. The Hornets were solid in the back throughout the game to hold Alma scoreless. Freshman Mikey Schwartz made several timely tackles to deny Alma scoring opportunities and Griffin Hamel was only forced to make one save in goal to record the shutout for K.

Kalamazoo will look to build on the win as they travel to Trine on Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
