ADA, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team dropped its third one-goal game of the young season. On Friday evening (Sept. 9) against Ohio Northern, the one goal for the Polar Bears came in the 65th minute as the Hornets could not score the equalizer in the 1-0 defeat.

Neither team had many chances to put shots on the net in the first half. Kalamazoo had two total shots, with one being on the frame, compared to Ohio Northern's eight shots and two on the net. Because of the lack of offense, the score remained tied at the half.

The tide turned in favor of the Polar Bears in the second half as ONU shot the ball 12 times, and five had a chance to score. The one that ended up in the back of the net was in the 65th minute that came off a rebound from an initially saved shot. After that goal, ONU packed in the defense as Kalamazoo could not get off another shot, ending the game 1-0.

Gavin Houtkooper (1-3) made six saves on seven chances in the game. Ohio Northern had more shots (20-4) and corner kicks (4-0) as Kalamazoo totaled more saves (6-2) and fouls (12-11).

Kalamazoo will stay in Ada, Ohio, to face Wilmington in a neutral site game on Saturday (Sept. 10), with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
