ALBION, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's soccer team played Albion for the second straight game on Saturday evening (Oct. 29) in the first round of the MIAA Tournament. After a scoreless regulation, the Britons scored in the 102nd minute of the second overtime to take down the Hornets 1-0.

The Hornets controlled the pace offensively through the first 90 minutes, taking 12 shots compared to Albion's eight. Half of those opportunities were on the frame of the goal, but unfortunately, none resulted in a goal as the Hornets and Britons went into overtime. This would be the first time either team would play the extra period all season, as there was no overtime across the NCAA during the regular season.

Kalamazoo was hit with a red card in the 80th minute, which means the team played with 10 for the remaining 30 minutes of the ball game. The Britons finally took advantage of having the extra man in the second overtime period, scoring within two minutes after the kickoff. The Hornets would get two shots off, but neither were on target, as the lone goal would be the difference.

Gavin Houtkooper made four saves on five chances throughout the 110 minutes. Kalamazoo finished with more shots (14-10), corner kicks (5-1), and fouls (18-15), while Albion had more saves (6-4).

The Hornets ended their 2022 season with a record of 5-8-6 (2-2-3 MIAA) and took fifth in the conference.
