Men's Swimming and Diving competes at MIAA relays

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Relays hosted by Calvin College.

On the men's side, the Hornet team of Cameron Wasko, Jacob Lindquist, Tyler Fisher, and Dylan Shearer finished third in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:38.02. Calvin won the event with a time of 1:36.41.

Kalamazoo also finished third in the 200 backstroke relay. Cameron Earls, Michael Allen, Roby Boggs, and Kelsey Kerbawy finished with a time of 1:45.66.

In the 200 breaststroke relay, the Hornet team of Shearer, Lindquist, Boggs, and Matt Zhiss won the event with a time of 1:51.16, more than a second ahead of second place Calvin. The Hornets also won the 200 butterfly relay with a time of 1:36.36.

Kalamazoo finished in third place in the 100 backstroke relay and the team of Shearer, Wasko, Kerbawy, and Lindquist placed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 43.34.

In the 1,500 freestyle relay, Kalamazoo's team of Alex Lindsey, Gabe Solomon, and Allen Michael finished second with a time of 15:24.75.

The Hornet team of Lindquist, Fisher, Boggs, and Shearer finished second in the 4 x 100 medley relay. Kalamazoo concluded the afternoon with a third place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.

On the women's side, K began the afternoon with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. The Hornet team of Christina Park, Jessica Varana, Colleen Orwin, and Tristyn Edsall finished with a time of 1:51.63, .04 seconds behind first-place Calvin.

After a third place finish in the 200 backstroke relay, the K team of Ellen Neveux, Katherine Cebelak, Varana, and Christina Park placed second in the 200 breaststroke relay with a time of 2:14.55.

The Hornets won the 500 freestyle progressive relay with a time of 4:53.14. Edsall, Hannah Olsen, Orwin, and Varana represented K in the event. Kalamazoo also won the 200 butterfly relay with a time of 1:52.

Olsen, Miranda Doepker, Orwin, and Park won the 100 butterfly relay with a time of 50.34. In the next event, the Hornets took third place in the 100 backstroke relay.

Kalamazoo finished second in both the 100 breaststroke relay and the 100 freestyle relay. In the freestyle, the K team of Edsall, Doepker, Zoe Bowman, and Olsen finished with a time of 47.02.

In the final event of the day, K took second place in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.39.

The Hornets return to action Oct. 26, when they travel to Olivet for a dual meet with the Comets.
