Men's Swimming and Diving in third after Friday

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Kalamazoo men's swimming and diving team competed in the third day of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships Friday, Feb. 14. The Hornets came into the day in third place with 215 points, 75 points behind leader Calvin.

The Hornets began the day with a second-place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. Cameron Wasko, Jake Lindquist, Tyler Fisher, and Dylan Shearer swam a time of 1:32.33, just .19 seconds slower than the winning team from Calvin.

Kevin Ewing followed up the relay performance with a second-place finish in the 400 Yard Individual Medley. The Deerfield, Ill. native swam a time of 4:06.99 barely beating out Travis Vincent of Calvin who finished third with a time of 4:07.18.

In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Fisher, Tyler McFarland, and Wasko placed in the top eight in the event finishing third, fifth, and sixth.

In the 100 Yard Breaststroke, Shearer finished fourth with a time of 57.18 while Lindquist and Roby Boggs finished sixth and seventh respectively.

The Hornets had two swimmers in the 100 Yard Backstroke finals. Wasko finished fourth with a time of 52.80 while McFarland swam a time of 53.41.

After three days of competition, Kalamazoo sits in third place with 415.5 points. The final day of the 2014 MIAA Championships, Feb.15, begins with 10:00 a.m. prelims and finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
