Men's Swimming and Diving finishes third at MIAA Swimming and Diving Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's swimming and diving team finished third in the 2014 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships held from Feb. 12-15 at the Venema Aquatic Center. After three days of competition, the Hornets stood in third place with 415.5 points.

Kalamazoo began the night with two swimmers in the finals of the 1,650 Yard Freestyle. Alex Lindsay finished fourth with a time of 16.36.54 while Gabe Solomon finished eighth swimming a time of 17:34.87.

Kevin Ewing won the MIAA title in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:52.50. Eric Dawdy of Olivet finished second with a time of 1:53.30. Cameron Wasko also swam in the event finishing fourth with a time of 1:56.14.

The Hornets had three swimmers in the finals of the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Dylan Shearer finished runner-up with a time of 2:03.52, just 0.33 seconds behind winner Johnson Cochran of Calvin. Jake Lindquist placed fourth swimming a time of 2:06.43 while Roby Boggs took seventh with a time of 2:09.10.

Elliot Littman followed up his MIAA title on the 1-meter board by winning the 3-meter diving event with a score of 475.5 points.

Tyler Fisher and Tyler McFarland placed second and third respectively in the 200 Yard Butterfly. Fisher swam a time of 1:55.18 while McFarland finished with a time of 1:55.62.

The Hornets placed fourth in the final event, the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay. McFarland, Wasko, Lindquist, and Shearer swam a time of 3:07.88.

After a three-year run at the top, Kalamazoo finishes third in the MIAA in 2014. The Hornets tallied 653.5 points in the meet. Final team results are posted below.
