Guedes, Shearer earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors

Kalamazoo College's Will Guedes '15 and Dylan Shearer '15 have been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 Men's At-Large Team as announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) on Thursday. As Academic All-District selections, both individuals advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.

Guedes, a senior from Brasilia, Brazil, was also selected to the Academic All-District team as well as named Academic All-American in 2013. He has twice been named the Most Valuable Diver in the MIAA, including this past season. He finished fifth in the 1-meter and 3-meter events at the NCAA Division III Championships in Texas in March, earning All-American honors in both events. Guedes is a five-time All-American with five top-five finishes at nationals, including a national championship in the 1-meter in 2013. Holding a 3.77 GPA as a computer science major, Guedes has twice been on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll as well as earning two CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) Scholar All-American honors.

Shearer is a senior biology major from Milan, Mich. who carries a 3.92 grade point average. He is a four-year All-MIAA selection, three-year CSCAA Scholar All-American and two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. Shearer is a two-time honorable mention All-American (100 breaststroke & 200 breaststroke) and was MIAA champion in the 200 breaststroke in 2013. He has also been a member of three MIAA championship relay teams and has been on the MIAA Academic Honor Roll every year.

Coached by Kathy Milliken, the Kalamazoo College men's swimming & diving team finished second in the MIAA this season and 31st at nationals. Guedes and Shearer were both members of MIAA championship teams in 2012 and 2013.

Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), District 6 includes NCAA Division III college and universities in the states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. The "at-large" team includes sports such as swimming/diving, wrestling, ice hockey, and golf among others.
