KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College Athletic Leadership Council announced Tuesday that Sharif Shaker was named Hornet of the Week for his efforts in the pool over the weekend.
Shaker, a senior from Castro Valley, Calif. (Fame Public Charter HS), had a big weekend for the Hornets. He won the 100 butterfly and 200 backstroke with times of :52.86 and 1:59.76, respectively, against Calvin. He also finished in third place in the 100 backstroke and delivered a :47.70 split while anchoring the 400 freestyle relay team.
Shaker was also victorious in the 200 freestyle (1:48.08) and the 200 medley relay (1:38.05) in Kalamazoo's win over Olivet.
In addition to being named Hornet of the Week, Shaker was honored yesterday as the Swimmer of the Week in the MIAA.
This marks the second time that Shaker has been selected as Hornet of the Week by the ALC.
Kalamazoo will now prepare for the MIAA Championships Feb. 20-23 in Holland.
