Men's Swimming & Diving Drops Close Battle to Albion

ALBION, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's swimming and diving faced Albion in an MIAA dual on Friday evening (Oct. 14). In a tightly scored contest, the Britons edged the Hornets by a score of 133-110.

Kalamazoo had 24 top-three finishes in the 13 events, including three in first place, 11 in second place, and 10 in third place.

The Hornets claimed second and third in the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Sam Ankley took the second place spots with scores of 250.65 in the 1-meter and 242.80 in the 3-meter. Luke Middlebrook was third on the podium with a 217.05 in the 1-meter and a 220.95 in the 3-meter.

Ben Pickrel was the first Hornet to win a race, swimming a 55.05 in the 100 Breast. He also had a second-place finish in the 200 IM at 2:04.26 and was on the 200 Free Relay. The team of Pickrel, Oliver Tye, Zach Butters, and Tim Karubas took first with a time of 1:30.37. The final winner of the day was Butters, who took home the 500 Free win at 5:07.71.

The second-place finishes started with the 200 Medley Relay team of Fuzail Ahmed, JJ Horsfield, Alden Ehrhardt, and Justin Beckrow at 1:42.17. Coming in second individually was Butters was second in the 1000 Free (10:44.48), Beckrow in the 200 Free (1:52.80), Tye in the 50 Free (22.93), Pickrel in the 200 IM (2:04.26), Karubas in the 100 Free (50.55), Ahmed in the 100 Back (57.46), Beckrow in the 500 Free (5:12.90), and Horsfield in the 100 Breast (1:02.68).

Coming in third was Jackson Rysavy in the 1000 Free (10:54.58), Karubas in the 200 Free (1:53.18), Ehrhardt in the 50 Free (23.73), Horsfield in the 200 IM (2:09.22), Ehrhardt in the 100 Fly (56.37), Daniel Koselka in the 100 Free (51.41), Erik Danielson in the 100 Breast (1:05.20), and the team of Koselka, Rysavy, Trustin Christopher, and Nick Cohee in the 200 Free Relay (1:36.22).

The Hornets will next compete at the MIAA Relays, hosted by Calvin, on Friday (Oct. 21).
