Men's Swimming & Diving Takes Third in the Michigan-Illinois Quad

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's swimming and diving team participated in the Michigan-Illinois Quad on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 14). The Hornets competed against Hope, Lake Forest, and Wheaton at the meet, finishing third with 450 points. The Flying Dutchmen finished first at 639 points, Lake Forest came second at 515 points, and Wheaton finished fourth with 322 points.

Kalamazoo had 19 top-eight finishes in the 13 events. The Hornets had three top-eight finishers in the 1-meter dive, with Sam Ankley coming in second (420.6 points), Luke Middlebrook finishing fourth (390.25 points), and Jose Torres-Rios coming in seventh (276.65 points). Ankley turned around and won the 3-meter dive (284.8 points), with Middlebrook coming in third (231.75 points) and Torres-Rios finishing fifth (171.85 points).

The Hornets had two teams each compete in the two relays, beginning with the 400 Medley Relay. Fuzail Ahmed, Erik Danielson, Alden Ehrhardt, and Daniel Koselka came in fifth at 3:43.61, while Bayley Millerov, Nick Cohee, Trustin Christopher, and Jonathan Jiang finished eighth with a time of 4:00.27. Oliver Tye, Ben Pickrel, Zach Butters, and Tim Karubas had a second-place finish in the 400 Free Relay, while Ethan DeNeen, Jackson Rysavy, Christopher, and Jiang finished seventh at 3:31.66.

Kalamazoo had two swimmers that finished in first place in their respective races. Tye had a time of 22.41 in the 50 Free, and Pickrel finished in 1:58.24 in the 200 Back. Tye also had a second-place finish in the 100 Free at 48.74, while Pickrel finished in third in the 200 IM at 2:02.32. Butters also had a good day, finishing second in the 200 Free (1:47.95) and third in the 500 Free (4:57.6). Rysavy had two top-eight finishes by coming in fourth in the 1000 Free (10:41.92) and eighth in the 500 Free (5:08.95). Rounding out the top-eight finishes was Deneen with a seventh-place finish in the 1000 Free (11:07.77) and Danielson with an eighth-place finish in the 200 Breast (2:21.42).

The Hornets will next compete in the Hope Tri-Meet that will include Olivet on Friday (Jan. 20), beginning at 6 p.m.
