CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team won 7-2 over Luther College in regional play on Sunday at Coe College. Kalamazoo entered the match ranked No. 11 in the Central Region while the Norse were ranked No. 15.
Kalamazoo won two of the three doubles points before winning five of the six singles flights to secure the win.
Branden Metzler and Robert Hudson won 8-2 at one doubles while David DeSimone and Elan Dantus won 8-3 at two doubles. Spencer Navarre and Eric De Witt were narrowly defeated 9-8(5) at three doubles.
In singles, DeSimone won 6-2, 6-0 at two followed by Metzler's 6-4, 6-3 win at one.
Hudson won in three sets at three, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, to secure the win for the Hornets.
Dantus followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at five singles and Alberto Ayala closed out the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at six singles.
Kalamazoo (4-2) returns home to face No. 26 Denison University next Saturday, March 7. The Big Red are also ranked No. 9 in the region.
