KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team was defeated 6-3 by No. 30 Denison University in the Markin Center on Saturday.
Kalamazoo lost the matchup last year 7-2 at Denison.
The visiting Big Red entered today's match ranked No. 9 in the Central Region while the Hornets are ranked No. 11.
Kalamazoo got off to a good start and nearly swept the doubles points. After wins at one and two, Denison was able to salvage a point with a 9-8(2) win at three.
Branden Metzler and Robert Hudson won 8-5 at one while David DeSimone and Elan Dantus won 8-3 at two.
Denison evened the score with a win at three singles, but Kalamazoo regained the lead (3-2) with DeSimone's 6-2, 6-2 win at two singles.
Denison won the final four singles matches, however, to claim the 6-3 win. Metzler went three sets at one singles (3-6, 6-3, 7-5).
Kalamazoo (4-3) is off now until March 21 when the Hornets travel to Emory University in Georgia.
