Men's Tennis wins 8-1 at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team moved a step closer to securing the conference championship with an 8-1 win at Calvin College on Thursday.

The host Knights (6-6, 2-1 MIAA) made things interesting early with a win at two doubles, but Kalamazoo responded by sweeping all six singles flights to win the match.

Branden Metzler and Robert Hudson won 8-3 at one doubles while Spencer Navarre and Eric De Witt won 8-3 at three to give the Hornets the early 2-1 lead.

Kalamazoo proceeded to win win five of the six singles matches in straight sets, completing the team victory in two hours and 35 minutes.

Metzler won 6-1, 6-1 at one singles while David DeSimone won 6-1, 6-3 at two. Hudson won 6-2, 6-4 at three while De Witt won 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.

Navarre (6-1, 6-1) and Alberto Ayala (6-0, 6-3) won at five and six singles, respectively.

Kalamazoo (11-5, 4-0 MIAA) returns to action Sunday, April 19 at Adrian.
