ADRIAN - Kalamazoo College's 8-1 win at Adrian College on Saturday clinched at least a share of the Hornets' 77th consecutive MIAA (Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) championship.

Kalamazoo (12-5, 5-0) swept the three doubles points before winning five of the six singles matches.

Branden Metzler and Robert Hudson won 8-4 at one doubles while David DeSimone and Alberto Ayala won 8-2 at two doubles. Spencer Navarre and Eric De Witt won 9-7 at three.

Metzler won 6-1, 6-0 at one singles while DeSimone won 6-4, 6-3 at two.

Adrian's (17-5, 3-2) lone win came at three singles, 6-2, 6-4.

De Witt won 6-2, 6-4 at four singles while Navarre (6-1, 6-0) and Ayala (6-2, 6-0) won at five and six singles, respectively.

Kalamazoo closes out the regular season at home against Hope College on Wednesday, April 22 at 6 p.m. The MIAA Tournament follows April 30-May 1 with the winner advancing to the NCAA III Championships.

Kalamazoo's string of conference championships dates back to 1936. Kalamazoo has won the title outright every year except for three seasons (1944-46) during World War II when no competition was held, in 1962 and 2003 when the Hornets shared the championship with Hope College, and in 2013 when Kalamazoo, Hope, and Calvin shared the title.
