GAMBIER, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis season came to an end with a 5-0 loss to Johns Hopkins University in the second round of the NCAA III Championships on Saturday at Kenyon College.
Johns Hopkins was ranked No. 17 in the nation and No. 5 in the region while Kalamazoo entered the match ranked No. 10 in the region.
The Blue Jays took a 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles before wins at four and six singles ended the match.
Branden Metzler and Robert Hudson lost 8-4 at one doubles while Eric De Witt and Spencer Navarre lost 8-3 at three doubles. David DeSimone and Elan Dantus were defeated 8-1 at two doubles.
DeSimone won his first set 6-1 at two singles, but the remaining four singles matches were stopped once the match outcome was determined.
Kalamazoo finished the season with a 15-6 overall record after capturing its 77th consecutive conference championship. The Hornets have also appeared in every NCAA III Tournament since its inception in 1976.
