Kalamazoo College's Branden Metzler was named MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Tuesday for matches through March 20.
A junior from Rockford, Ill., Metzler went 4-0 last week with a pair of victories in both singles and doubles competition at the No. 1 position. He ranks No. 18 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III men's singles rankings. Both of Metzler's singles wins came in straight sets against opponents from regionally ranked teams.
The Hornet also played at No. 1 doubles with Elan Dantus. The duo defeated a tandem from Division II West Alabama in extra games at 9-7 and doubled up a pairing from Rhodes College 8-4 for an undefeated week.
The award marks Metzler's second Player of the Week nod this season after earning the honor on Feb. 29 and sixth honor of his career.
