KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team rallied to defeat Aquinas 5-4 at Stowe Stadium on Friday.
Aquinas (20-6) led 2-1 after wins at two and three doubles. Kalamazoo's Branden Metzler and Elan Dantus won 9-7 at one doubles to avoid the sweep.
Metzler won 6-3, 6-4 at one singles, but wins by Aquinas at two and six singles gave the visiting Saints a 4-2 advantage.
Allen Vinson won 7-5, 6-1 at five singles to make it a 4-3 contest. Eric De Witt followed with a three-set win at four after losing the first set (5-7, 6-4, 6-3).
Elan Dantus lost a first set tiebreaker at three singles, but recovered to win the next two sets (6-7(1), 6-4, 6-2) and secure the win for the Hornets.
Kalamazoo (14-4) returns to conference play Saturday and Sunday as the Hornets seek to secure their 78th consecutive MIAA championship. Kalamazoo hosts Olivet on Saturday followed by Adrian on Sunday.
