Five Hornets earn All-MIAA honors; Metzler named MVP

Five members of the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team were recognized with All-MIAA honors on Thursday.

Branden Metzler was named MIAA Most Valuable Player and was joined on the All-MIAA First Team by Robert Hudson and Elan Dantus. Eric De Witt and Allen Vinson were named to the second team.

Metzler, a junior from Rockford, Ill., was named league MVP and All-MIAA First Team honoree for the third conescutive year. Metzler finished the conference season 6-0 at No. 1 singles and is currently 17-0 for his career. Metzler and Elan Dantus teamed up to go 6-0 at No. 1 doubles improving Metzler's career doubles record to 17-0.

Hudson, a senior from Kalamazoo, Mich., was named to the All-MIAA First Team after posting a 6-0 record at No. 2 singles. An All-MIAA Second Team selection last season, Hudson also posted a 5-0 record in the league in doubles this year.

A sophomore from Okemos, Mich., Dantus went 6-0 in conference play at No. 3 singles and 6-0 at No. 1 doubles with Metzler to earn All-MIAA First Team honors. Dantus moved up to the No. 3 singles position after playing at No. 6 most of last season. He also played mostly No. 2 doubles last year.

Eric De Witt, a junior from Haslett, Mich., earned All-MIAA Second Team honors after posting a 6-0 league record at No. 4 singles and a 6-0 record at No. 2 doubles. De Witt was also a second team selection last season.

Allen Vinson, a freshman from Tallahassee, Fla., earned All-MIAA Second Team honors after going 4-0 in the league at No. 5 singles and 5-0 at No. 3 doubles.

The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team finished 7-0 in the conference while capturing its 78th consecutive MIAA championship.
