KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Helping guide the No. 19 Kalamazoo College men's tennis team to its fifth straight win to begin the 2017 season, senior Branden Metzler was named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's men's tennis player of the week for his strong play against Denison over the weekend.
Metzler, a Rockford, Ill. product and currently ranked the No. 15 singles player in the country, defeated Denison's Kevin Brown 6-4, 6-2 in one singles Sunday afternoon. He also won his one doubles match with Elan Dantus by a score of 8-5.
Metzler is currently 5-0 in singles matches this spring and 4-1 in doubles matches. A three-time MIAA MVP, this is the eighth time in his career he's been named the MIAA's player of the week.
Metzler and the Hornets begin a four-match roadtrip on March 21 when they travel to The College of New Jersey.
