KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College men's tennis team capped off a week in which they clinched an outright MIAA championship with another award today as Tytus Metzler has been named MIAA Player of the Week.
In Wednesday's 9-0 victory over Adrian Metzler paired with Daniel Henry for an 8-3 win at one doubles and then cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at one singles
In Saturday's title clinching match at Albion, Metzler was again a winner at one doubles and wrapped up an outstanding season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at one singles.
Metzler, a freshman from Rockford, Ill., played primarily one doubles and singles this year to lead the Hornets, currently ranked sixth in the Central region, to the outright MIAA title. He was undefeated in MIAA play in both doubles and singles, never dropping a set in a singles match. The team as a whole was undefeated in league play, only dropping one point on their way to the title.
Coach Mark Riley said, "Tytus is very deserving of this award as he helped us clinch the outright title this week with great play at one singles and doubles."
He is being honored as MIAA Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Kalamazoo finishes the season 13-6 overall and 7-0 in the MIAA.
