KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Tytus Metzler of the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team was honored by the MIAA on Monday afternoon as the Player of the Week.
Metzler, a sophomore from Rockford, Ill. (Auburn HS), was victorious in all four of his matches this week. Against Hope, Metzler and Alex Cadigan won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles before Metzler went on and won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. To conclude the week, the duo beat Albion 8-1 before Metzler won 6-1, 6-1 at singles.
In Kalamazoo's 9-0 sweep of Albion, the Hornets clinched at least a share of the 2019 MIAA Championship.
Metzler is now 15-5 overall in singles matches this week and has improved his career record to 32-9. Metzler and the rest of the Hornets are all undefeated in MIAA singles matches by winning all 36.
This marks the third time Metzler has been named MIAA Player of the Week in his career after being honored twice during his freshman season.
The Hornets look to win the conference outright at Alma on Wednesday, April 24.
