Men's Tennis Lands Five on All-MIAA Teams

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Following a 42-0 singles record in MIAA play, the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team was recognized by placing five players on All-MIAA teams. Freshman Ian Yi highlighted the teams by being named MIAA Most Valuable Player. Joining Yi on the First Team were Daniel Henry and Tytus Metzler. Casey Johnson and Allen Vinson were both named to the Second Team.

Yi, a freshman from Ann Arbor, Mich., played one singles and doubles during MIAA play for Kalamazoo this season. The freshman went 7-0 in conference singles and doubles matches while finishing 19-4 overall in singles and 12-5 in doubles. He is currently the third ranked singles player in the Central Region while he and Henry are ranked sixth in doubles.

Yi is the 46th MIAA MVP in program history and was named MVP one year after Metzler. He was named MIAA Player of the Week three times during his freshman season.

Henry, a junior from Kalamazoo, Mich., found himself on the All-MIAA First Team for the third consecutive season following his outstanding year. He won each of his seven MIAA matches for the third straight year at two singles and teamed with Yi to finish 7-0 in doubles. Henry is ranked 21st in the Central Region and was honored by the MIAA as Player of the Week twice this season. 

A year after being named MIAA MVP, Metzler played himself onto the First Team for the second straight year. A sophomore from Rockford, Ill., Metzler finished the MIAA singles season with a 6-0 record while also going 6-0 in doubles along side either Alex Cadigan or Zack Ray. Playing primarily three singles this year, Metzler finished the season 16-6 overall and improved his career record to 33-10.

Freshman Casey Johnson, from Kohler, Wis., was one of two members from Kalamazoo on the All-MIAA Second Team. Playing primarily at five singles, Johnson collected a perfect 7-0 MIAA record this season. He and Vinson won both of their conference doubles matches they played in to assist in Kalamazoo's 20 MIAA doubles wins. Johnson's first season ended in a 15-6 overall singles record while winning nine of his last 10 matches. 

Vinson, a senior from Tallahassee, Fla., earned a spot on the Second Team for the third time in his career. Like Metzler, Vinson also finished this singles season with a 6-0 MIAA record. Vinson finished the season with a 6-1 conference record in doubles going 2-0 with Johnson and 4-1 with Ray. Following a great four season, Vinson ended his final regular season with a 45-25 overall singles record.
