TEMPE, Ariz. - Ian Yi was named Central Region Rookie of the Year by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.
Yi is currently 21-4 and will compete in the 32-player NCAA III Singles Championships in Kalamazoo May 24-26.
A freshman from Ann Arbor, Mich. (Pioneer HS), Yi earned MIAA MVP honors with a 7-0 league record at No. 1 singles. He was also a three-time MIAA Player of the Week selection.
Yi helped the Hornets win the MIAA regular season championship with a 7-0 league record along with the MIAA Tournament championship. Kalamazoo finished 14-7 overall after falling in the third round of the NCAA III Championships.
Yi joins previous Kalamazoo College regional Rookie of the Year honorees Pat Noud (1994) and Alec Kempster (2004).
