Gabe Vidinas of the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team was selected as the MIAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday (Feb. 13). This is the second time in his career that Vidinas has collected player of the week honors, with the other one coming last season.
The men's tennis team earned its first win of the season this past Saturday (Feb. 11) against Oberlin. The Hornets defeated the Yeomen 6-3 after winning two of the three doubles matches and four of the six singles matches.
Vidinas took care of business while playing in the #1 singles and doubles matches. First, he teamed up with Peter Fitzgerald to take the doubles match 8-5 to move to 2-1 in the spring season. Then, he won a thrilling three-set singles match 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 for his first singles win of the season and to clinch the match win for Kalamazoo.
For his career, Vidinas is 27-13 (11-0 MIAA) in singles matches and 13-15 (5-1 MIAA) in doubles matches. The senior was selected to the All-MIAA First Team in 2022 after finishing 13-8 (7-0 MIAA) in singles and 9-12 (5-1 MIAA) in doubles. He was also an All-MIAA Second Team member in 2021 and is an MIAA Academic Honor Roll member.
Kalamazoo will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Wisconsin-Whitewater on Sunday (Feb. 19).
