Louis Landreau of the Kalamazoo College men's tennis team was named the SAAC Men's Hornet of the Week on Tuesday (Apr. 25).
Kalamazoo finished the regular season with two road MIAA matches at Trine (Apr. 19) and Calvin (Apr. 22). The Hornets completed the conference season undefeated to be MIAA Champions after defeating the Thunder 6-3 and the Knights 7-2.
Landreau finished the week 3-1 with two wins in singles matches and a 1-1 record in doubles. In the first match against Trine, Landreau moved up to the #2 doubles spot to play with Peter Fitzgerald as the duo won 8-3. Normally in the #5 singles spot, Landreau cruised in the #4 singles match by a score of 7-5, 6-1. Against Calvin, Landreau and Parker Foster were narrowly defeated in #3 doubles 8-7 (7-1). However, he helped the Hornets clinch the MIAA Championship with a 6-1, 6-4 win in the #5 singles spot.
In his first season of collegiate tennis, Landreau is 8-7 (5-0 MIAA) in singles matches with a 7-5 record in the #5 spot and a 1-2 record in #4 singles. He also has a 4-11 (3-2 MIAA) record in doubles matches, primarily playing in the #3 spot.
The Hornets will now focus on the MIAA Tournament, starting with a semifinal match against the fourth-seeded Thunder on Wednesday (Apr. 27). If they advance, Kalamazoo will host the finals on Saturday (Apr. 29).
