CLERMONT, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College softball team defeated Lawrence University 7-5 in the first game of the day on Friday in Florida.

Kalamazoo's offense was clicking early as the Hornets had five straight hits in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Maddy Sinkovich's bases clearing double.

The lead was short lived, however, as Lawrence also used a bases clearing double in the top of the second and evened the score at 4-4.

The Vikings (0-1) pulled ahead in the top of the sixth with a solo home run, but Kalamazoo answered in the bottom of the sixth with Querubin Dubois' three run shot to left center which put the Hornets up 7-5.

Lawrence loaded the bases in the top of the seventh, but the Hornets were able to get out of the jam to secure the win.

Dubois finished 3-for-3 with a single, double and home run. She also stole two bases while driving in three runs.

Sinkovich was 2-for-3 with the double and three RBIs. Megan Malish finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Erin DuRoss improved to 2-0 with the complete game win. She struck out five while allowing seven hits and eight walks.

Game Two

Kalamazoo played Allegheny about 15 minutes after the conclusion of the exciting win over Lawrence and fell 6-5.

Kalamazoo came out hot offensively scoring three runs in the top of the first as a result of Abby Anderson's three run home run.

Allegheny used three hits and an error to score four runs in the bottom of the first, however. It was the only three hits the Gators would have in the game.

Kalamazoo evened the score in the third when Sinkovich doubled and was driven home by Paige Maguire.

Allegheny scored two more runs on an error in the fourth to go up 6-5.

Kalamazoo scored one in the top of the fifth and had two runners on in the top of the sixth, but just couldn't get the key hit at the end.

Kalamazoo had nine hits overall compared to three for Allegheny, but the Hornets left nine runners on base in the game.

Abby Anderson was 1-for-4 with the home run and two runs scored. Maddy Sinkovich was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Querubin Dubois was 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.

Kalamazoo returns to action with a pair of games on Saturday. The Hornets face Middlebury at 3 p.m. followed by Chicago at 5 p.m.
