Softball sweeps Albion in MIAA opening series

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team opened the 2015 conference season with a pair of wins over Albion College on Saturday, 10-2 and 9-1. 

Albion scored first in the opener before Kalamazoo evened the score in the bottom of the first and added four runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead. Albion made it 5-2 in the third before Kalamazoo scored five times in the fourth for the 10-2 advantage.

Erin DuRoss allowed five hits while striking out six and walking three in the win.

Querubin Dubois, Erin DuRoss and Emma Patrash each had two hits in the game. Isabella Kirck, DuRoss, Abby Anderson and Patrash each drove in two runs. Kirck, Anderson and Patrash each had a double.

Kalamazoo led off the second game with a run only to see Albion even the score in the bottom half. The Hornets added two runs in the second and four in the third to take a 7-1 lead. Kalamazoo added a run in the fourth and one in the sixth for the 9-1 advantage.

Taylor Clements earned her first win of the season in the circle, allowing just three hits while striking out four and walking four.

Querubin Dubois, Erin DuRoss, Abby Anderson and Maddy Sinkovich each had two hits. DuRoss and Sinkovich both drove in a pair of runs. Emma Patrash doubled while Dubois and Sinkovich each had a triple.

Kalamazoo improved to 5-7 overall (2-0 MIAA) with the wins. The Hornets return to action with a doubleheader at Alma College on Tuesday, March 31 beginning at 3:30 p.m.
