Softball loses doubleheader to Belles

Angelia Evangelista playing softball.

NOTRE DAME, IN - The Kalamazoo College softball team lost two games on the road 9-6, and 8-3 to Saint Mary's (Ind.) today. The team is now 8-20 overall, and 5-11 in league play.

In game one Kalamazoo had a big third inning to take a 4-1 lead. Paige Maguire and Dana Page each drove in a run while Erin DuRoss drove in two. Kalamazoo went up 5-2 in the top of the seventh on an RBI from Isabella Kirck but would then surrender three runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extras.

In the top of the eighth Kalamazoo would regain the lead off an RBI from Angelia Evangelista, but it wouldn't be enough for the win because the Belle's answered right back with a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the eighth for the win.

In game two the Belles jumped ahead early and led 4-0 after the top of the second. Kalamazoo answered with two runs in the bottom of the third, but after Isabella Kirck's RBI single in the fifth to cut the lead to 6-3, the Hornets gave up another two runs. 8-3 would remain the score for the rest of the game.

Victoria Najacht
pitched the majority of the game for the Hornets, throwing 4.2 innings while only giving up two runs. She was a definite bright spot in the second game.

The Hornets will be home Friday, Apr. 24 to take on the University of Michigan-Dearborn.
