Softball falls in doubleheader to Chicago

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College softball competed in a non-conference doubleheader Friday afternoon against the University of Chicago. The Phoenix took both games of the double header.

Game One

Chicago jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first but the Hornets tied the game back up in the bottom of the third on an Andrea MacMichael RBI single.

After Chicago added five more runs and took a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh the Hornets threatened to have a late inning comeback by tacking on three runs, but that's where their luck ended.

Chicago came away with a 6-4 win.

Game Two

Chicago once again struck early, this time scoring five runs in the top of the first, but the Hornets held their ground.

Kalamazoo cut the Phoenix lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the second but that's as close as the Hornets would get the rest of the way.

Chicago tacked on three more runs in the third and fourth innings combined and the Phoenix went on to win 8-4 in game two.

Paige Mcguire and MacMichael each recorded a two hit game in game one of the doubleheader.

Kalamazoo was outhit 25-14 on the day.

The Hornets will look to get back on the winning side of things when they travel to Albion for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association opener tomorrow morning. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
