Softball sweeps Albion to open MIAA season

ALBION, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team opened the MIAA season with a sweep of Albion College on Sunday. The games were originally scheduled to be played on Saturday, but were moved to Sunday afternoon due to weather. Kalamazoo won the opener 8-1 followed by a 7-0 shutout.

Game One

Kalamazoo scored a run in the first and added four in the second highlighted by Hannah Pipkin's 2-run home run. The Hornets added two more in the third and one in the fourth.

Erin DuRoss had a no-hitter going into the fourth inning before the Britons finally got a base hit and a run. DuRoss went the distance allowing just four hits while striking out 10 and walking three.

Kalamazoo pounded out a season-high 16 hits in the game. Pipkin, Isabella Kirck and Hayleigh Alamo each had three hits while Kirck had a pair of doubles. Andrea MacMichael had two hits with a double while Alamo and Nori Seita each had a double. 

Game Two

Kalamazoo used a 4-run second inning in game two to take an early lead, highlighted by Andrea MacMichael's bases-clearing double. Kalamazoo put up three more runs in the sixth following back-to-back doubles by Erin DuRoss and Hayleigh Alamo.

Victoria Najacht kept Albion's offense in check with the complete game win, allowing just three hits while striking out one and walking three.

MacMichael finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs for a total of five hits on the day. Dana Page was 2-for-3 with a double while Erika Pueblo also went 2-for-3.

Kalamazoo is scheduled to face U of M Dearborn at home on Tuesday, April 5 at 3:30 p.m.
