GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Kalamazoo College softball team split on the road against Calvin College in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association action Saturday afternoon. The Hornets took game one, 3-2, in extra innings while the Knights took game two, 11-2.

Game One

After falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first, Kalamazoo saved its best at bats for the latter innings of game one.

With Paige Maguire and Megan Malish leading off the top of the fifth with a walk and a single, Victoria Najacht brought both Maguire and Malish home in the following at bat on double ripped to right center.

Still level after seven, Erin DuRoss struck in the top of the eighth for the Hornets with an RBI single through the right side.

DuRoss made the trot back out to the mound in the bottom half of the eighth to get the final three outs and record the complete game. She ended the day striking out 10 Knights.

Offensively, K was also led by DuRoss who went 2-for-4.

Game Two

The Hornet offense picked up where it left off in game one to start game two.

Dana Page drove in Andrea MacMichael on an RBI single giving K a 1-0 in the first. The Hornets added to their lead in the second as MacMichael tripled to center and drove in Najacht, but the Knights answered in a big way down the stretch.

Calvin used a five run third inning to propel itself offensively into the later innings. The Knights tacked on six more in the fifth and sixth innings combined.

Dana Page led the Hornets offensively going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Najacht was credited with the loss for Kalamazoo.

The Hornets will hit the road once again next Thursday when they head to Adrian for a doubleheader.
