KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Following the team's first weekend of play the Kalamazoo College softball team has swept the MIAA Player of the Week awards with junior Andrea MacMichael winning the award for position players and Keelin McManus taking home the award for pitchers.

MacMichael, an outfielder from Southfield, was an important contributor to K's two season-opening wins on Friday. In a 4-2 win over Albion, MacMichael had a hand in all four of the team's runs as she scored twice and drove home the winning run in the sixth inning with a two RBI double. In the Hornets' second game of the day, MacMichael again scored twice and had one hit to help the team to a 3-2 win over Madonna.

Coach Kelli Duimstra said, "Andrea was the catalyst for our offense all day. She scored four of the seven runs we tallied on the day and went 1-1 on stolen base attempts as well. Something that doesn't show up in the scorebook is the great defense she played in centerfield, tracking down several well hit balls and making difficult catches look easy. Overall it was a fantastic day for Andrea."

MacMichael is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

Keelin McManus picks up the weekly award for pitchers after a strong performance in her first outing of the season and her career. McManus, a freshman from Haslett, pitched all seven innings for the Hornets in their victory over Madonna. The right hander gave up just two runs on five hits while striking out four to earn her first career victory and help K improve to 2-0 on the season.

Coach Duimstra said, "Keelin showed tremendous poise in the circle against a tough Madonna team. She was able to keep the Madonna hitters off balance and she dug very deep in some pressure packed moments and got herself out of some jams to secure the win. I was so impressed by her effort in what was just her first collegiate start."

McManus is also being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

The Hornets play next on March 10th as they travel to Franklin for a doubleheader which begins at 1 p.m.
