Softball Wins Two on Saturday

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College softball team won both of its games in Florida on Saturday. The Hornets defeated Carleton 5-3 in the opener and Franklin 7-4 in the second game.

Game One

Kalamazoo led 3-1 after the second inning, but Carleton scored a pair of runs in the fifth to even it up. Kalamazoo scored two more in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Hayleigh Alamo and an RBI single by Ashley Schiffer to take the lead and held on for the win.

The Hornets had 11 hits in the game while limiting Carleton to six.

Sammi Luzadre had six strikeouts in the win on the mound.

Andrea MacMichael was 4-for-5 in the leadoff spot.

Nina Szalkiewicz and Alyssa Heitkamp each had two hits. Alamo and Szalkiewicz each had two RBIs.

Game Two

After scoring a run in the first inning Kalamazoo scored five in the second to take a 6-0 lead.

An RBI double by Hayleigh Alamo in the fourth gave the Hornets a 7-1 lead.

Franklin threatened with two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh, but the Hornets were able to hold on for the 7-4 win.

Keelin McManus earned her first win of the season on the mound while Sammi Luzadre picked up her first save.

Andrea MacMichael had three hits in the game including a triple and three runs scored.

Ashley Schiffer had two hits including a double and three RBIs. 

Alamo drove in two runs in the game.

Kalamazoo is back in action Monday, March 25 with games against Hamilton and Colby in Clermont, Fla.
