Softball Finishes the Day with a 1-1 Record

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split games on Monday with a 9-6 loss to Hamilton in the morning and followed that with an 11-2 defeat of Colby. 

Game 1

The Hornets got out to an early 2-1 lead following the first inning after a two-run home run off of the bat of Ashley Schiffer

Hamilton answered with three runs in the fourth and five more in the sixth to gain a 9-2 lead. Kalamazoo had four runners cross the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but was unable to coplete a come back. 

Schiffer ended the game with two hits, two runs, and two RBI. Nina Szalkiewicz had a game-high three hits while driving in two runs and scoring another. 

Keelin McManus and Alyssa Heitkamp both collected a hit and an RBI. 

Game 2

Kalamazoo got on the board early against Colby with two runs in the first inning and followed that up with three more in the second. A six-run fourth inning capped off the 11-run game. Colby scored both of its runs in the bottom half of the fourth. 

Hayleigh Alamo led the Hornets in game two with two hits while driving in four runs. Alamo also scored a run of her own. 

Schiffer added two more hits and scored a pair of runs in the win. McManus and Szalkiewicz each had a hit and two RBI. 

Kalamazoo retuns to play Tuesday, March 26 with games against Wisconsin-River Falls and Middlebury beginning at 9:30 a.m.
