KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team defeated Albion 9-5 in game one to open MIAA play Tuesday afternoon. Kalamazoo then topped the Britons 12-8 in 10 innings in the second game of the evening.

Game 1

Albion and Kalamazoo each got on the board quickly with two runs each in the first inning. The Hornets then scored three innings in the third and fourth innings and surrendered just one Brit run in the fourth. Albion got two runners across the plate in the fifth and Kalamazoo answered with their ninth and final run in the bottom of the inning.

Hayleigh Alamo led the Hornets with three hits including a home run. Alamo also drove in two runs while scoring three.

Anna Majewski and Nina Szalkiewicz each added two hits while scoring two runs and driving in one.

Sammi Luzadre collected the win on the mound after pitching five innings and striking out five batters.

Game 2

The two teams played to a 7-7 tie at the end of seven innings thanks in part to a five-run fifth for Kalamazoo. Each team pushed one runner across the plate in the ninth before Kalamazoo brought in four runs in the top of the 10th to win the game.

Kalamazoo and Albion combined for 29 hits in game two including seven extra base hits.

Alyssa Heitkamp's lone hit of the second game ended as the game-winning RBI as she drove in Keelin McManus for the first of four runs in the final frame.

Anna Majewski led Kalamazoo with two doubles and four RBI while scoring two runs of her own. Her two-run double in the top of the 10th inning broke the game open and drove home the final two runs of the game.

Seniors Andrea MacMichael and Ashley Schiffer each collected three hits in the game. MacMichael scored four runs for Kalamazoo while Schiffer drove in three.

Kalamazoo will continue MIAA play on Saturday, April 6 as it travels to Saint Mary's for a double header that is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
