Softball Splits Doubleheader at Saint Mary's

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split a doubleheader at Saint Mary's on Saturday. Kalamazoo won the opener 3-2 in eight innings before dropping the finale 2-0.

Game One

Kalamazoo won the opener 3-2 in eight innings.

Kalamazoo trailed 2-1 after four innings before Alyssa Heitkamp doubled in the sixth to drive in her second run of the game and even the score at 2-2.

The game remained tied after seven innings before Andrea MacMichael singles in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth. Saint Mary's threatened in the bottom half before lining into a double play to end the game.

Kalamazoo had 11 hits in the game compared to nine for the Belles.

MacMichael led the Hornets with three hits while Heitkamp had two hits with a double and two RBIs.

Sammi Luzadre earned the win on the mound. 

Game Two

Saint Mary's scored a pair of runs in the top of the fifth while holding Kalamazoo scoreless for a 2-0 win.

The Belles had 12 hits in the game while limiting the Hornets to three.

Kalamazoo is back in action Sunday with a non-conference doubleheader at the University of Chicago.
