Softball Splits with Elmhurst

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Kalamazoo College softball team split its double header with Elmhurst on Sunday afternoon by winning game one 2-0 and falling 8-5 in 10 innings in game two.

Game 1

The Hornets and Blue Jays held each other scoreless in the first three innings before Kalamazoo got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Nina Szalkiewicz's two-RBI double proved to be enough for the Hornets to collect the win.

Szalkiewicz led the way with one hit and drove in both runs. 

Keelin McManus tallied two hits and scored a run at the plate. On the mound, McManus shutout the Blue Jays while striking out four batters and only allowing five hits. 

Hayleigh Alamo and Sammi Luzadre each tallied one hit.

Game 2

Kalamazoo struck first in the bottom of the second with a run, but the Blue Jays answered with three of their own in the top half of the third. After out scoring Elmhurst 3-1 to end regulation, the teams each tallied one more in the ninth to extend the game. Elmhurst tallied three runs in the top of the tenth to put the Hornets away.

Alamo had four hits including a double and a triple. The senior also score one run. 

Andrea MacMichael tabbed three hits and drove in one run.

Szalkiewicz and Luzadre added two hits each for the Hornets. Luzadre drove in two runs while pitching over nine innings.
