The seniors on the 2021 Kalamazoo College softball team have selected their Most Valuable Professors to recognize this season.
The Hornets selected Professor Amy MacMillan, Dr. Sara Tanis, Dr. Blaine Moore, and Dr. Daniela Arias-Rotondo.
Senior Nina Szalkiewicz selected Professor Amy MacMillan from the Economics & Business Department to recognize as her MVP. Despite only working with Professor MacMillan for one year, she has still played a major role in Nina's experience at K. Nina appreciates her contagious positivity and enthusiasm and her guidance during the cumbersome writing process of her Senior Individualized Project. Nina's only regret is not taking a class with Professor MacMillan sooner, but she is grateful for the small amount of time she was given to learn from her.
Dr. Sara Tanis from the Biology Department was selected by senior Maija Weaver. Maija appreciates Dr. Tanis for her kindness, understanding, and her effective teaching style. The fact that she cares about her students inside and outside of the classroom resonates with Maija. She is grateful for Dr. Tanis always being available to discuss classwork or personal issues. Maija appreciates her passion and how it shows in everything Dr. Tanis does.
Senior Sammi Luzadre selected Dr. Blaine Moore from the Biology Department to recognize as her MVP. Sammi appreciates Dr. Moore for opening her eyes to other career paths. As her advisor, he was very helpful in choosing courses that best suited her explorations. In class, Dr. Moore helped Sammi gain confidence in presenting research material. She is grateful for him always being available and being willing to help.
Dr. Daniela Arias-Rotondo, better known as Dr. DAR, from the Chemistry Department was selected by senior Keelin McManus. Keelin appreciates Dr. DAR for going above and beyond in looking after her students' academic, physical, and mental well-being. She is most grateful for Dr. DAR's approachability in class and during office hours. Her fun and relaxed classroom environment helped Keelin to learn on a deeper level.
