Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Kalamazoo College softball team swept a doubleheader at Bluffton University on Wednesday, winning 5-2 and 11-6.

Game One

Kalamazoo won the opener, 5-2. Bluffton took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and held that lead until the top of the sixth when Sam Moss hit a 3-run home run to put the Hornets ahead. Brynna Garden then drove in the fourth run of the inning. Sam Moss had another RBI in the 7th.

Lizzy Rottenberk, Bella Caza and Sam Moss each had two hits in the game. Moss finished with four RBIs.

Kelsey Diekman had a triple in the sixth and scored on Garden's RBI. 

Moss improved to 6-2 with the complete-game win as well, allowing just two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Game Two

Kalamazoo scored six runs in the first two innings en route to an 11-6 win. Kalamazoo led 9-4 after five innings. Each team scored two runs in the seventh.

Kalamazoo had 14 hits in the game compared to 13 by Bluffton.

Kelsey Diekman had three hits with three RBIs. Amy McNutt had three hits including a double with one RBI.

Brynna Garden had two hits including a double with three RBIs. Sam Moss had two hits with two RBIs. Mackenzie Moore had two hits with an RBI.

Jordan Cook improved to 6-3 with the win, allowing three earned runs in six innings while striking out three and walking two.

Kalamazoo returns home to open MIAA play against Hope on Saturday, April 2 beginning at 1 p.m.
